Bulgaria has the second smallest public debt in EU according to Eurostat’s revised data. At the end of 2013 the debt of EU-28 amounted to 11,55 trillion Euro or 85.4% of GDP and has grown compared to previous years. The lowest debt as percentage of GDP has been reported in Estonia (10.1%), Bulgaria (18.3%), Luxembourg (23.6%), Romania (37.9%), Latvia (38.2%), Sweden (38.6%) and Lithuania (39%). Even including the loans Bulgaria has taken in 2014, the country is still ahead of Luxembourg in terms of public debt as percentage of GDP.
