The European Commission has approved aid “de minimis” for Bulgaria in 2010, for farms in the country, Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov stated Thursday.

Naydenov, speaking at the opening of the organic products exhibition “Green Days” in Sofia, said that the funding totaled EUR 20 M with a maximum of EUR 15 000 for each farm.

He added that a formal notification will be received before the end of the week and then the application process will be developed and will be mainly aimed at animal product producers who have suffered over the financial crisis.

Naydenov continued that farmers who received EUR 7 500 from the scheme last year will be able to apply for the same amount again in 2010.

Naydenov concluded that an ‘organic farming’ department will be set up attached to the ‘arable’ department with 10 experts controlling certification and organic products from Bulgaria.
