The development of international trade, international transportation, new technologies and delivery networks are hastening the demand for industrial and logistic spaces in Central and Eastern Europe(CEE) according to the most recent research of Colliers International.
New logistic centers are being created in CEE countries specialized in intermodal and multimodal transportation which only comes to show that developing economies already are of crucial significance for the sector.
The number of spaces occupied by transport and logistics operators specialized in intermodal and multimodal systems freight systems has increased with almost 70% from 2011 (from 337 492 sq.m in 2011 to 570 204 sq.m in 2013).
According to the report the retail sector absorbs the highest share of industrial and logistic spaces in CEE – approximately 35.2% of deals in 2013. The share of leased spaces in the wholesale and electronic commerce subsectors has increased four times – from 1.9% in 2011 to 8.4% in 2013. This totals a growth in absorbed spaces from 102 493 sq.m in 2011 to 554 434 sq.m in 2013.
As the role of electronic commerce gets more significant, apart from expanding geographically logistic centers and facilities get yet more vast.
