Dear clients & partners,
We would like to bring to your attention the forthcoming Holiday.
22 September – Independence Day of Bulgaria
Bulgaria was officially liberated from the rule of the Ottoman Empire on 3 March 1878. On September 6, 1885 took place the unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and the Ottoman province of Eastern Rumelia. After the Liberation, Bulgaria’s main aim was to unify all Bulgarian-inhabited territories that were still part of the Ottoman realm. In order to claim those territories by war, Bulgaria needed to proclaim its independence first.
The formal proclamation of the Independence took place at the SS Forty Martyrs Church on 5 October (Old style 22 Sept.) 1908 in Veliko Turnovo. It resulted in promoting Bulgaria’s status to that of a kingdom thus increasing the country’s international prestige. Ferdinand, previously known as Knyaz of Bulgaria, adopted the title of Tsar. Bulgaria’s Independence Day is celebrated annually on 22 September. In 2008 Bulgaria celebrated the centenary anniversary of its independence.
The programme adopted by Varna city council for the National Holiday features a number of events: a solemn flag-raising ceremony, a solemn prayer, a festive folklore concert.
